Greetings, dear, Sunny Optimists,
Well, now, it is so lovely to be back here with you. Taking the month off was the right thing to do, but I am ready to get back into my routine of writing every Friday.
I love to celebrate the seasonal cycles. The poem Ode to Autumn by John Keats popped into my mind this morning. I grinned, even grimaced, remembering having to memorise it all for school. The words offer such an evocative homage to Autumn. Thank you to Charles Lamb at Unsplash for photographing the 'mists and mellow fruitfulness' Keats describes.
COVID as a gift. What!
I have to say that it has been quite a challenging time since I last was here. I contracted COVID for the first time at the beginning of October. I have been what we call in Scotland 'proper poorly'. It was quite a journey as I went through the typical COVID stages. When I contacted my homoeopathist for advice, I was somewhat shocked by his delight with all my symptoms. He said, 'This is what we have been waiting for. You are heading into a new stage of wellness now. Your immune system is being 'rebooted' and 'upgraded' by the virus.'
I have a rueful smile on my face as I remember his advice to be patient and welcoming of this experience. I did my best, but sometimes I just felt awful.
Homeopathy as a Modality
I have been consulting with the homeopathist for about a year. I was a bit sceptical, but the results have been good for me. I started off with a list of ailments, none of them huge, more simply irritating. Regular cold sores and mouth ulcers are examples. I have not had either now for months.
I am still not sure that I know how homoeopathy works. But, I am clear that I am much more in balance than I was before. So today, I did a little bit of reading up on it. Here is what I have gleaned:
'Classical homeopathy focuses on treating the patient as an indivisible whole: as a living system. The conversation between the homeopathist and the client leads to the determination of a remedy most similar to the whole symptom picture of the patient. A low dose of the matching homoeopathic medicine triggers a disproportionately large-magnitude organism-wide reversal of the imbalance. The remedy triggers the body's innate ability to heal' (Source: Washington Homeopathic Products )
What I found most inspiring was how the homoeopath's questions felt so holistic. I could sense that the inquiry process sought to weave the spiritual, cognitive and emotional realms with the physical signals. I am an advocate for this modality now, and I look forward, post-COVID, to what unfolds.
Do you have any knowledge or experience with homoeopathy that you would like to share? I am intrigued to know more about it, and additional insights would be most welcome.
The Beauty of the Virome
In early 2020 the information about COVID brought a modicum of fear about what would happen if I caught it. Being in my 70’s, I was in the age group considered ‘most at risk’. David and I have taken care of our natural immunity for years, but I still felt concerned.
The video below by Zach Bush helped me relax and understand the role of what he calls The Virome. I found the video presentation below so powerful. It gave me a better sense of how viruses are part of the natural web of life and are, and always have been, vital to life on Earth.
Dr Bush says;
‘For centuries, Western medicine has waged war against microbes. Ironically, this war is not saving us. It’s killing us. Why? We are not against nature. We are the result of nature. Our very survival now requires us to embrace this reality – fast. And there is something else we need to understand. Nature is intelligent. Science has discovered that this intelligence saturates and connects all life through a natural system we have named the microbiome. The microbiome expresses extraordinary capacity for genetic diversification through the mechanisms of horizontal gene transfer, exosomes, and viruses.’
Yesterday the above invitation above from Dr Bush came into my email box. I have signed up. You might like to join in too. Click here or on the image above for more information.
So that is me back into my writing flow, and it feels good. Thank you for being with me. As always, if anything here from this week inspires you to connect. I would love to hear from you.
Ann
So grateful to have you back Ann, I terribly missed your deep presence and the warmth of your wisdom every week. I love the fact that you used the resting time to learn about the interconnection of diseases to nature. 💜🌼
Thank you Ann for your example of self care. Very glad to hear you are well again.
The virome took a bit for me to follow but I get the gist and find it fascinating.
Big hug
Mark
