Greetings,
On this Winter Solstice day, the sun sets directly through the Stonehenge Heel Stone. The alignment of the sun and the stone creates a dramatic and evocative visual spectacle. It is a beautiful heralding of the darkness preparing to give way to the light. So powerful and life-affirming. I appreciate how our ancestors were deeply aware of and connected to the cycles of the seasons.
And so for this year, the dark nights have reached their peak, and for a few days the Sun rests on the horizon. (The word solstice means ‘Sun standing still’.) This solstice time also invites us to be still and connect with the serenity that surrounds us. In a few days, the Sun will begin journeying once again, bringing increasing light with every new day. This ‘great turning’ is very reassuring. We see and experience the natural world effortlessly responding to the seasons and we too can flow with our inner seasonal cycle.
Winter Dreaming Meditation
And so I invite you to turn inwards to rejuvenate yourself, ready to respond to the adventure of your life here on Earth.
Below is a Winter Solstice Meditation called ‘Rebirth of Light’ from the lovely little book by Dorothea Brietzter-Kings called Meditations Through the Year. The words are just delightful, and I appreciate the celebration of both darkness and light. I delight in Tim Uffindell’s piano accompaniment, as it brings an added level of depth to this gift from Dorothea.

I hope this meditation nurtures and sustains you as you move through this turning time. I would love to hear from you if you would like to share your experience.
